The HWA Team is the most successful team in DTM history, with no less then 10 driver championship titles for Mercedes Benz to its credit. They won the DTM 1992 and 1994 with Klaus Ludwig, DTM and ITC 1995 as well as DTM 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006 with Bernd Schneider, and DTM 2005 with Gary Paffett and DTM 2010 with Paul di Resta. In addition, they won the FIA GT Championship in 1997 and 1998. In 2012 HWA will be entering four DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé cars. The drivers will be Jamie Green, Gary Paffett, Ralf Schumacher and Christian Vietoris.

The team will be responsible for the technical support of all eight Mercedes-Benz vehicles competing in the DTM. This includes the HWA cars and the cars used by Ingmar Persson’s and Peter Mücke’s teams, who will receive the usual full support from Affalterbach during the season. HWA AG employs 210 people, and two-thirds of them are involved in the DTM project, with the rest working in vehicles and vehicles components.

DTM lays on a spectacle of racing excitement that is unmatched by any other touring car championship. The 2011 series was broadcast on TV channels in 221 countries around the world. In Germany last year, total coverage of DTM amounted to more than 69 hours, which generated around 450 million TV contacts; on an average race weekend, approximately 2.11 million viewers tuned in to watch the qualifying sessions and the race itself on the ARD national network. By comparison, RTL’s coverage of Formula One last year pulled in audiences of 8.04 million viewers for each live broadcast – so DTM nonetheless achieved a respectable 26 percent of the Formula One figure. Worldwide, DTM accounted for more than 6,997 hours of TV time, with qualifying and races being shown live or recorded on 46 channels in 114 countries. Since the 2011 season, DTM has been broadcast in high-resolution (1080i50) HDTV format. All trackside and onboard cameras as well as the entire video wireless technology have been upgraded to the new standard.
